Key findings

The study examines forms of discrimination of persons with migration background from predominantly Muslim countries in respect to important resources of everyday life, that is: grading in school, searching housing, and searching for work. 67% of the sample do not perceive themselves to be regularly affected by discrimination in daily life. At the same time, however, around a third of the sample reports to experience discrimination several times a month or more. The study also finds that teachers give worse grades in school (here: 3rd, 5th, 6th grade) to children with Turkish first names and migration background, respectively. The report concludes that the perception of experiencing discrimination in daily life can be demotivating in terms of integration efforts and lead to marginalisation. Consequently, the reduction of prejudices towards persons from predominantly Muslim countries should be promoted by media and politics.
